Introductions
I have been asked again and again, what is is like to live in Switzerland, why did you decide to move to India, why did you decide to move to Switzerland etc. etc. I grew up in India, then went to study in US, worked there for few years and then decided to move to Switzerland in 2011. In 2017, I decided to move back to India to try to settle there, but in under 2 years, I moved back to Switzerland, hoping to settle here for good. After living on 3 continents, in 9 cities/towns/villages, I consider myself somewhat of an expert in making international moves. So here is my experience and thought process in moving in and out and in between Switzerland and India.
Little bit about myself, so that you can see what you relate to. I love love love the outdoors. I live to hike in the mountains, run long distances, bike, swim, or just go for a walk outdoors. I want to be a party animal, but I am not. I do love an evening of dancing to music, but I am also very happy having a quiet at home dinner party. I do on occasions enjoy the sound of silence when I can get it. (yes, there is a sound of silence which can only be heard in Switzerland!)
Now that we have intros out of the way - why did I first move to Switzerland?
I loved living in Seattle, I had an amazing group of friends, great outdoors and perfect mix of adventure and quiet in my life. Though for some reason I never related to American society, I never wanted to settle there, never wanted to raise a family there. I don't know why, I just did not. The plan was to always go back and settle in India, raise kids in "Indian culture" and be close to extended family. When it was time to move out of Seattle, I felt I was not yet ready to go back to India. I always imagined that going back to India means giving up my freedom, giving up the mountains and settling into a domestic life, and I was not ready. So I decided to "live it up" in Switzerland for couple of years.
The "couple of years" turned into 6 and I loved every minute of it. I loved the easy access to hikes in summer and winter, and you can read about those here - https://tulika-hikes.blogspot.com/
